INTRODUCTION AND SCHEME OF EXAMINATION

Admission criteria to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IITs, Other centrally funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by several participating State Governments, and several other Institutions shall include the performance in the class 12/other Qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main). The Paper- of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.

 

YEAR OF PASSING QUALIFYING EXAMINATION (QE)

Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any other qualifying examination in 2014 or 2015; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any other qualifying examination in 2016 are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) - 2016.

 

Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2013 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2017 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) - 2016.

 

Candidates who appeared in class 12th/other Qualifying Examinations in 2013, did not pass in 2013, but passed in 2014 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) - 2016.

 

Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/any other Qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE (Main).

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR APPEARING IN JEE (Advanced) - 2016

The minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE (Advanced) - 2016 is that the candidate must have passed in final examination of Class 12th or other qualifying examination. Those appearing in these examinations in 2016 can also appear in JEE (Advanced) - 2016 provisionally.

 

All the candidates aspiring to take admission in the undergraduate programmes at IITs and ISM Dhanbad for the year 2016 will have to appear in the JEE (Main)-2016. About 150000 top candidates based on the performance of JEE (Main)-2016 (Paper 1) (B.E/BTech) (including all categories) will be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) - 2016.

 

Admissions to IITs/ISM Dhanbad will be based only on category-wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced), subject to conditions as defined in JEE (Advanced) - 2016 website.

 

A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in consecutive yeas irrespective of whether or not he/she passed the Qualifying Examination. Those who have attempted JEE in 2014 or earlier are NOT ELIGIBLE to appear in JEE (Advanced) - 2016.

 

ADMISSION TO NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, SFIS, STATE ENGINEERING COLLEGES FOR PARTICIPATING STATES AND OTHER ARTICIPATING INSTITUTIONS

Eligibility for Admission to NITs, IIITs and Other Institutions participating through Central Counselling Board.

 

Admission to NITs, IIITs and other institutions participating though Central Counselling Boards will be based on All India Rank as explained above along with the criteria of subject combinations mentioned in the table below.

 

Subject combinations required in the qualifying examination of admission to B.E/B.Tech and B.Arch / B.Planning Courses in NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs shall be as under.
